Hello all! It's me again^^;

Today I present to you all: a bunch of links. I've been writing and writing on my blog, and it's finally occurred to me I should share some of it in a place where the right audience is more likely to see.

First of all, if you like fanifestos I wrote one for Angelique, the first otome game ever and its sequels. I spent a long time on it, so it'd be nice if it got more eyes on it. (I need to update the fansite too... But I think I'd make another post here when that's ready, if that's okay.)

At the final heart-shaped bullet point in this post full of links I talk about an R18 simulation-RPG-VN-wombo-combo otome game, that'll be dropping next year by an (indie??) dev group. I find it super interesting, so I want to get the news out there. There's also a follow-up post where I share that the game will be getting an English translation, and more info surrounding that.

Well, it technically released yesterday, but I only found out about it some hours ago. I don't keep up with game accounts anymore to keep me from overspending, but I've been looking forward to this for some time now.

Forgive me for possibly necroing a community, but it still has plenty of active members who I'm sure want to see a little more otome on their reading pages (or else they wouldn't have joined!). I hope that my contribution on this beautiful Community Thursday will remind other people that they have free will and can revive communities whenever.

I thought you all might be interested to see the list of games I had prepared to suggest for Game of the Month. It's a mixture of games I've played and enjoyed and what I could find by searching itchio and Steam for the most popular otome games. I'd been meaning to add some of the more recent releases, especially Switch exclusives, since Nintendo does not make them easy to search for.

Looking for new mods, future of the community

So I am sorry to have to say that I have realised I am experiencing Gender Issues(*) that mean it's best for me to step back from otome as a genre for a while. Which includes stuff like making the game of the month/catch-up posts.

I'm happy to remain on as a caretaker mod deleting spam etc, but is anyone else interested joining as a mod who actually posts about otome? You wouldn't have to follow my system or commit to anything long term, if you post a couple of times then get bored that's still a plus for everyone. You wouldn't even have to become a mod, I just know people sometimes feel braver about posting when it's official.

If not, then I guess the community just gets very quiet, though other people are as always welcome to post when the mood strikes and I will probably still post anything especially interesting I happen to stumble across and reply to comments when I have something to say.

Either way, thank you for being a great community, I've really enjoyed my time as mod and discussing these games with you all. And I'm sure I will still play and enjoy otome sometimes in the future, and maybe even post about it here, that's just not where my Gender Journey is taking me right now.

(*)My gender hasn't actually changed, I've been genderfluid the whole time, but for whatever reason how I relate to gender in fiction has changed pretty dramatically over the last 6 months or so.

Sorry for the lack of game of the month posts, my health's dipped for the the last couple of weeks and I just can't muster the energy. I've been pondering stopping them in general since my brain has found it increasingly difficult to focus on them but that's a question for a less tired me to ponder! Still, if anyone else does want to step up and take them on I certainly wouldn't say no.

Play as a renowned Hunter; a creature slayer who has been called to the quiet, strange little town of Lunaris to assist the local Enforcers with an investigation into a series of unsettling and unexplained supernatural murders.

Immerse yourself in the world of witches, vampires, demons, and Lycans as you slowly unravel the dark mystery that lies deep within the roots of the town.

When The Night Comes is a queer, narrative-driven, supernatural visual novel originally completed in October 2019. The player character is not shown and has custom pronouns, while the 6 love interests are a mixture of male, female, and non-binary, including polyamorous options. It costs $13USD on steam or itchio, and has been included in a few itchio charity bundles.

I tried playing this a few years ago and it was pretty fun and well made but didn't have autoplay so it hurt my hands too much to keep clicking. If you have sturdier hands than me, you might enjoy it!

Game of the Month for August 2022: I Love You!

Follow the antics of a strong-headed female protagonist through her school days in I Love You!, a visual novel otome game where you could meet and date some good boys depending on the choices you make!

I Love You! is a short but very cute indie f/m femdomm-y Japanese dating sim which genderflips a bunch of highschool romance tropes. It's pay what you want on itchio.

The protagonist gets few lines but is protective, physically strong, and a little pushy, and the three male love interests are blushingly into it. She's fairly short but that doesn't stop her picking them up when they twist their ankle etc. I adored this but there's not a lot to it beyond the premise.

I have not seen ANYONE else talk about this game which I think is a shame, it's not for everyone but is a lot of fun if you're into this sort of thing. Has anyone else played it? What did you think?

Looking it up, Norn9's actual protagonists are the three young women, who each have their own collections of routes. Which sounds interesting!

I forgot to make this post for a few days, so the Switch sales end on the 19th and the GoG one probably earlier. The Switch store is annoying so I use psprices.com to be notified of sales in my region.

Game of the Month for June 2022: The Lady's Choice

The Lady's Choice is a pay-what-you-want otome game set in 19th Century/Regency England. The itchio page doesn't go into specifics about the routes but I have a vague memory that there's at least 2, all men.

As the daughter of a Viscount, and heiress to a small fortune, you are invited back into society even after years of seclusion at your family's estate.
The upcoming Season is to be spent in Bath, your childhood friend having finally convinced you into it, and only the cream of society will be there. But the fickle and difficult dance that is weaving through society can be a tricky thing to remember, especially when they thrive on any small misstep you may make.

But which partner is selected to help guide you through the maze of the upper classes is always left down to The Lady's Choice.

I keep hearing good things about this game from fans of regency romances, saying it has enjoyable romances and captures the feeling of the time. I never got around to playing it because I thought it cost a chunk of money but either that's changed or I was wrong, so I might give it a shot!

Longsummer Nights is not an otome game, it's a shared-universe LGBQT+ southern gothic paranormal romance anthology.

But it was made by a group of writers who formed to push against the terrible working conditions at the now defunct otome game Lovestruck. I know a lot of you also felt for them at the time, and were also sad to see Lovestruck get shut down when there's so few places for LGBQT+ games.

Has anyone had a chance to read it yet? I'm still deciding if I'll buy it, even though I like fantasy and romance separately I don't always like paranormal romance tropes. But I think it's great they've found a way to keep telling their stories, and look forward to seeing where they go next.

Longsummer Nights is $15US on itchio for 15 stories.

Game of the Month for May: Cute Demon Crashers

While university students are out enjoying themselves, Claire is stuck at home and having spring break blues.

Cute Demon Crashers! is a silly little short game that gives a lazy virgin college student a fun and safe space to explore her first sexual experience with a partner of her choice, if she so desires.

I played the f/f route when the game came out a billion years ago, it was Too Much Sex and Not Enough Romance for my personal tastes, but still well made and a really interesting experience. Note that there is zero romance in this game, just friends-with-benefits, but that you can put a stop to anything sexual at any point and the story continues on with the friendship.

Has anyone else played the game? Did you like it?
